Parents,
Thank you so much for your warm welcomes to John Rex. I couldn’t be more excited to join the Rocket Family. I have previously taught in the Edmond and Norman School Districts, but I know that JRCES is my home. For those parents who don’t know me, my passion for health and physical education started when I was a student at Oklahoma City University. I began taking basic kinesiology classes, and there, thanks to my amazing advisers, my love for health and fitness grew. I graduated from OCU in 2012 with a B.S. in Health and Exercise Science with a focus in youth motor skill development. At OCU I was an active member of the competitive cheerleading squad where I was a 3x All-American and 2012 NAIA All-Girl National Champion. I am also currently the head competitive cheerleading coach at Mid-American Christian University in SW Oklahoma City. I believe that physical education is a vital part of the educational program, and can be enjoyable for all. More and more people of all ages are enjoying the benefits of being physically fit and living a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of physical education is to improve the physical and mental condition of all students thru exercise. My goal is to integrate health and wellness education in with the traditional physical education curriculum. I want to teach every child how to make healthy choices in nutrition, safety, fitness, and life skills. Child obesity rates are at their highest, and I know that as an educator, I can make a difference in the lives of these students and the choices that they make. During the school year, your student will be participating in many different sports units including soccer, jump roping, basketball, kickball, track and field, and more. Additionally, we will be doing different events including a John Rex Health Fair, Jump-Rope-For-Heart, The Memorial Kids Marathon, Spring Olympic Field Days, and many more. If you would like to sign up to help for any of these events, please contact me. Thank you all for your support, and I look forward to meeting more of you! Savannah Owen www.msowenjrces.weebly.com
